The Parallelogram’s Revenge

September 26, 2010

Scott McCloud, the brilliant comic artist and analyst, author of the definitive book Understanding Comics, decided it was time to get creative. So he would improvise comics, in a classic improvisational way: he received suggestions from his readers, and spend a couple of hours drawing to see where it would go.

For this Sunday, I’d like to present one such comic, called:

You can find the whole thing here. What’s beautiful about this comic is that it has an incredibly clear storyline written in a kind of symbolic, abstract language that requires some digging to fully understand. The story is simple, beautiful, and tragic. The act of deciphering it from it’s highly abstract form gives a kind of satisfaction I can only describe as mathematical. The beginning of it is below. Go to McCloud’s website to see the whole thing.
