Volunteer

Math for Love is proud to host Seattle’s first Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival at 9:00 am to noon on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Evergreen School, 15201 Meridian Avenue North, Shoreline, WA. The festival is open to 4th-12th graders and their parents and teachers.

We are hoping to have 300 students at the festival, which means we would like to have 50 volunteers, to maintain a 1 to 6 ratio. We will have some funds to reimburse volunteers for their time.

Volunteers will lead small groups of students through an exciting mathematical activity at their table. We’ll provide the activity and guidance on leading it beforehand. The goal is to challenge students with mathematically beautiful problems that require deep thought, and share the fun of participating with others, students and adults, who love math.

Each table will be staffed by one or two volunteers to introduce the students to a mathematical problem or puzzle that requires creativity and exploration to solve. The activities are designed to engage students for about 20-30 minutes. The students will have an entire morning to explore a number of fascinating, interesting problems in mathematics with the help and encouragement of the volunteers.

If you don’t feel like leading a lesson, we can still use your help to spread the word about the festival or handle logistics. Sign up below!
